More than 2,000 fires ignited during the June 21
storm. State officials have called the cluster of fires
the largest fire event in California history. A busy fire season doesn’t begin to describe this year and
the magnitude and number of fires Vaca District personnel
responded to in June and July. Assistant Chief Rogers
assisted OES administratively on the “Wild Fire”, “Walker
Fire” and “Butte Lighting Complex”, leaving on June 21 and
returning on the 4th of July. B67 also left town on June 21 to the “Humboldt Complex
Fire” with Deputy Chief Robinson, Captain Anderson and
Firefighter Eaton. B67 was reassigned on July 2nd to the
“SHU Lighting Fire”. Relief crews included B/C Walton,
Captain deLege, Jones, Engineer Lee, Firefighters Cozens,
Rackley, and Lechuga. This unit returned to Vacaville on
July 19. Units B64, B65 and WT 64 assisted at the “Wild Fire” in
Suisun on June 21 with Captains deLege, Gill, Fogleman,
Brumm, Kuntz, Engineer Duggan and Firefighters Fay,
Ratterre, Kelly, P. Walton, and Lechuga. They came back on
June 24. OES 244 departed on June 25 to the “SHU Lighting Fire”,
then on 7/5 unit was reassigned to the “Gap Fire” in Santa
Barbara. Assignment only last until 7/10, then it was back
to the “SHU Lighting Fire”. The initial and relief crews
included: B/C Smith, Captains Gill, Fogleman and Kuntz,
plus Firefighters Brennan, Fay, Kuntz, Farrell, Bergstrom,
and Holt. This unit finally returned on July 16. As of July 27, two units are out at the Telegraph fire
near Yosemite. |
